Keeping the first step of a long journey of 365 days, Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town had the 1st General and the transition meeting on 02nd July 2019 at COCO Space, Colombo 07. The meeting witnesses the participation of around 30 club members and 20 prospective members of the club. The meeting was also graced by PP Zayan Jeffry and PP. Rtr. Salman Nizamdeen.
The procedures of the meeting were started by President for year 2018-19 Rtr. Insaf Ismail and Secretary Rtr. Dina Ali. As we witnessed the presence of many prospective members, a small ice- breaking session was carried out by introducing oneself briefly to the audience and this helped to familiarise the audience with each other creating a friendlier and a comfortable environment to the prospects.
Our very own 40 year celebration Director, Rtr. Miyuru Dharmage then spoke about the Rotaract movement and the focus areas of Rotaract for the benefit of the prospective members. This was followed by formal proceedings of the meeting. Afterwards the outgoing president Rtr. Insaf Ismail opened the forum to the members of the club to give their thoughts on the past year, share their experience and areas for improvement. Rtr. Chirag Amit, Rtr. Nuzath Jeffry, Rtr. Nilisha Amaratunge, PP Rtr. Salman Nizamdeen shared their thoughts and experience and congratulated Rtr. Insaf Ismail and the members of the club for a great year of service .
The meeting then moved onto the most awaited item on the agenda, the transition of the collar to the new president Rtr. Nipun Alwis. Before transferring the collar to Rtr. Nipun, a small introduction was done about him by Rtr. Chirag Amit and then Rtr. Insaf officially handed over the club to Rtr. Nipun Alwis, the president for year 2019-20 and Rtr. Nadeera Udawatta the secretary for the new year.
Rtr. Nipun Alwis then congrdualted IPP Rtr. Insaf Ismail and outgoing secretary Rtr. Dina Ali for a job well done over the past year and all the members of who continuously showed their support for activities carried out by the club.
A video was then played reminiscing the past which showed the highlights of the concluded year 2018-19 and the fun we had doing projects. This was enjoyed by everyone in the audience and brought a smile on their face. Afterward, Rtr. Nipun Alwis invited PP Zayan Jeffry (ZJ) to speak a few words sharing his knowledge on Rotaract and the experience. ZJ congratulated the outgoing board for an amazing year and wished good luck to the new team taking over the club. He highlighted the importance of dong projects with a great impact and said the most important aspect of Rotaract is enjoying the journey and having fun while changing the world.
Rtr. Nipun then introduced his new board to the audience which was followed by individual presentations done by avenue directors outlining the year plan. The presentations covered the signature projects, the time line and the impact made by each project.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Rtr.Nadeera Udawatta and the meeting was adjourned at 8.30 pm making it a very successful meeting. All in all it was a great meeting and can proudly say the first step in this long journey was memorable.
