The 40th Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town successfully concluded on the 25th of July 2019 at the DHPL Auditorium Colombo.
The program commenced with the arrival of the special guests followed by a rather unusual course of action, an alternative to the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. Under the Go Green concept, guests were invited to plant a total of 20 trees making our efforts of being a responsible citizen. Plant seeds were distributed as souvenirs at the entrance to all who participated for the event with a thank you note.
Before starting the official proceedings of the event, a minute of silence was observed for a fellow Rotaractor departed from us. Rtr. Christopher or fondly known as Christo from the RAC of Wellawatte and the lives lost and affected by the occurrence of the Easter attack.
Then came the rotaract formalities followed by the welcome address by Project Chairperson Rtr. Hamza Huzair. Outgoing secretary Rtr. Dina Ali then presented the secretary’s report for year 2018/19. The secretary’s report highlighted all the projects done by the club during 2018/19 and it brought a bit of nostalgia to all club members present at the event. The report was supported by video clips incorporating a series of projects. Immediate Past President Rtr. Insaaf Ismail addressed the gathering afterwards and shared his experience of the roller-coaster ride he had as the president during the last year and the value added by Rotaract to his life. The outgoing president gave away a set of awards, appreciating the efforts of fellow Midtowners in the year 2018/19 after his speech. Midtowners were given awards under the categories of Spirit of Service, Emerging Midtowner of the Year, Midtowner of the Year, Presidential Paragon Award and Tokens of appreciation.
Rtr. PP Akhila Adeeshwara then took the stage to introduce the incoming president Rtr. Nipun Alwis. The new president Rtr. Nipun Alwis then addressed the gathering and shared his vision for the New Year. This was followed by the introduction of his board members for the year 2019/20.
Up next was the launch of the revamped RACC Mid Town website with an all new addition, the Mid Town value chain, a database structured to enable us to increase our net worth by expanding our network. This was a main highlight of the event as the Mid Town value chain launched was a unique platform of networking introduced to the Rotaract family for the first time in history.
Thereafter, President Rtr. Nipun Alwis was back on stage to induct 13 new members to the Mid Town family as membership development is considered a key area of focus for the year 2019/20.
Next on the agenda was the address by the DRR Rtr. PP. Krishan Balaji, DRCC Rtn. PP Pirassanth Jegatheesan and the Chief guest President Rtn. PHF Irshad Halaldeen. The 40th Installation ceremony was concluded by Rtr. Nadeera Udawatta, the newly appointed secretary of the club delivering the vote of thanks.
Opposed to the conventional approach, setting new trends yet again felicitations were broadcasted live on the official Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town Instagram page and this was a brand new experience to the entire Rotaract community.
