Sweet Friends, Good Food, Summer Love! What more would you expect at a fantastic picnic by the beach?

Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town organized a fun filled beach picnic on the 15th February (Saturday) 2020 from 3.30pm onwards at the Dehiwela Beach. It was a joyful evening of a fellowship session for the Mid Town family along with the presence of our family clubs Rotaract Clubs of ACBT & UOC FMF as well.

The purpose of the evening was for the new and existing members of the club and family clubs to socialize and get to know each other. It was a long-awaited event of the club, well who would not love a merry picnic? One by one started walking in from 3.30pm on Saturday and it was just a few minutes until the beach got pretty crowded with our Rotaractors. As it is always, a bunch of Rotaractors gathered and there’s no better party around!

The event followed with a number of amusement activities including Limbo, Sandcastle Building Competition, Beach Rugby, Uno, Jenga games and music.

The picnic was started off with an exciting limbo session where all our energetic bunch of boys jumped over and sneaked below the ropes only until someone actually jumped on to the rope. Then started the sandcastle competition where our fellow rotaractors showcased their extraordinary creativity building their dream castles by the beach (You can see the pictures below). We had a gigantic asymmetrical pyramid, anti-Kashyapa version of Sigiriya with 3 significant poles on top, a god knows what shape three tier castle and last but not least Rtr. Chirag inspired sandcastle on top of non-other than enormous CJ’s not-dead body. It was indeed a tremendous session everyone enjoyed.

What is a party without some music? Then started the musical whimsical by our dear Rtr. Thushan followed by the bongo beat of Rtr. Chirag. It did not take so long for one by one to join in and sing the songs of their lives. Yes, it was undeniably awesome. While a bunch of Rotaractors hit the music, another bunch started playing beach rugby. It was more running around and jumping onto the water! However, we are quite convinced that it is a sort of beach rugby. Fun? Sure, it was, watching a bunch of bears rolling over the beach.

Also, the mandatory mouthwatering food spread was the core motivation of the picnic for everybody. Because, why not? we had a delicious range of short eats including, Sandwiches, Cutlets, Patties, Cakes, Muffins and of course finger foods and drinks that just calms down your thirsty buds after a good few hours under the sun.

In-between all the munching, we had our signature games Uno and Jenga by the beach. It wasn’t easy playing Uno and Jenga with all the wind and on the sandy shores. However, we made it almost possible till the not so perpendicular Jenga tower crashed in not more than minutes after it was stacked.

Talking about beach, who does not love a dip in the sea? Mid Towners made sure they hadn’t left the beach without a relaxing sea bath by the sunset. Sweet as it sounds were the screams of those who were pulled into the water. Each one was hunted down and carried into the water amidst all the crying out loud. It was absolutely one of the best moments that Saturday evening.  The fanciful evening full of fun, friends and refreshments by the beach has been a wonderful day out for everyone.
