A wise man once told me “If you can dream it, you can do it”. That is what 17 rotaractors had in mind and nothing was going to stop them from reaching the stars. The International Open Mic was hosted by the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town, RID 3220 Sri Lanka & Maldives on the 3rd of May 2020.

With the Covid-19 lock-down in place and entertainment scarce what better way to release that creative energy than hosting an Open Mic? An International Open Mic! Getting people from 11 countries, 14 districts and 11 different languages to come under one banner of unity was no easy task. However, Rtr. Krishanth being a performer himself was determined to make this dream a reality. Scouring through various Instagram pages to find the right performers for the event within the Rotaract movement and also to make sure that the time differences do not clash, Rtr. Krishanth messaged each and every one of them to get positive feedback. With the wheels already in motion Rtr. Krishanth gathered all resources and set out the plan.

Each performer brought in their own signature style which was refreshing as the open mic kept progressing. The live audience on Facebook and the Zoom channel was enthralled by the performances until the very end. After the Open Mic I had the opportunity to speak to some of the performers as they showed gratitude towards the host club for providing a platform to showcase their talents on an International level. Some of them actually were just getting over the nerves as it was the first time that they performed.

With that all been said it was yet another successful event as memories and bonds were made across oceans. With music being the universal language for peace and love with no boundaries the Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town would extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the performers who helped spread the love.
