The installation ceremony of the 6th President Rtr. Isham Cassim and the Board of Directors of the Rotaract Club of Wattala was held on the 26th of July and was broadcasted live through their club Facebook page.
The event began with a warm welcome by Rtr. Aakhir Rizvi followed by Rtr. Shanithi Vithanagamage, the President of the year 2019/2020 called the Installation Ceremony to order.
The installation ceremony officially commenced by following the Rotaract Formalities; The Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, and The Four-Way Test. The Project Chairperson of the Installation and Club Service Director Rtr. Stephan Dissanayake addressed the gathering. Afterwards the outgoing Secretary Rtr. Sajani Ramanayakewas presented the Secretary’s Report for the year 2019/2020. It was evident that under the year theme “here for humanity”, that they have completed a successful year in which the club embarked on a journey by breaking boundaries, stepping outside norms and archiving many milestones by completing 35 impactful projects.
Next, the Outgoing President Rtr. IPP Shanithi Vithanagamage addressed the gathering and spoke about how she along with her team were able to uplift the standard of the club and she expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all individuals who supported and guided her during her journey as president of the club and made it a successful one.
Next on the agenda was the address by Rtn. IPP. Raj Rajalingam of the Rotary Club of Wattala. He thanked the Outgoing President Rtr. IPP Shanithi for managing and completing all projects successfully and maintaining the fellowship among the club members. He was delighted to present a token of appreciation to the Outgoing President Rtr. IPP Shanithi for her outstanding service.
Afterwards, the new theme for the year 2020/2021 “Inspire Service” was revealed followed by collaring the incoming President Rtr. Isham Cassim and handing over the gavel and charter certificate by the outgoing President, Rtr. IPP Shanithi Vithanagamage.
Up next was the introduction of the President for the year 2020/21, President Rtr. Isham Cassim which was done by Rtr. Aakhir Rizvi. The newly inducted president addressed the gathering for the 1st time and he stated the following in his speech, “I believe that Rotaract is the perfect platform for anybody that has the willingness to serve. And I believe that as Rotaractors, as a part of the world’s largest youth lead movement, all of us have a responsibility to inspire service. To inspire people within our own communities and from all around the world to serve one another as fellow human beings.”
“I believe that the question of ‘how many people did we inspire’ needs to be an important measurement, an important KPI in evaluating the success of what we do as a movement. Because real success is not engaging in service alone but inspiring more and more people to join hands with you.”
President Rtr. Isham Cassim concluded his speech by introducing his Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the year 2020-21.

Next, the District Rotaract Representative Rtn. Rtr. PP Kasun Sigera addressed the gathering by acknowledging the outgoing board for a successful and impactful year and he invited all Rotaractors to come forward and join hands together to strive as one followed by the address by the President of the Rotary Club of Wattala, PHF Rtn. Sekar Perianna.
The Installation Ceremony came to end with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Rtr. Suboothanan Bathmaraja, the Secretary for the year 2020-2021 after which President Rtr. Isham Cassim officially adjourned the ceremony.
