The Installation Ceremony of the 3rd President Rtr. Dananjaya Siriwardana and the Board of Directors of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central was held on the 31st of July 2020 at the Royal College Union Skill Centre and the ceremony was broadcasted live on Facebook.
The dignitaries of the evening were invited to the lighting of the oil lamp and were invited to take their seats at the head table. The Sergeant at Arms called the house to order and then followed by the national anthem, flag salutation, Rotaract invocation, the four-way test and the Rotaract song of RID 3220.
Starting off the proceedings, one of the chairpersons of the installation ceremony, Rtr. Hasanthi Premathilaka took the stage to welcome the gathering. Afterwards, the outgoing Joint Secretaries, Rtr. Senuri Hettihamu and Rtr. Chathuni Jayawaeera presented the Secretary’s report for the year 2019-2020, Rtr. Chathuni Jayawaeera started off her speech by saying, “Past year has been challenging but yet a memorable year for both of us as joint secretaries”. The club has completed over 30 projects out of which 7 – Club Service, 8 – Community Service, 6 – Professional Development, 3 – International Service, 01 – Finance, 02 – PR based, and finally the Cluster project and project in celebration of 50 years of Rotaract in Sri Lanka. The joint Secretary Rtr. Senuri highlighted that the most important milestone of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central was the project Horawpathana sustainable village, which was recognized by Rotary International. The speech was followed by a video presentation of the 2nd year of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central.
Rtr. IPP Mano Mudunkotuwa took the stage to address the gathering for one last time as the 2nd President of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central. He emphasized on his 7 years of Rotaract and how he was able to achieve the three objectives which were initiated at the beginning of the Rotaract year. Those are namely, increasing membership, increasing the PR presence of the club, and increasing the participation of events. He did not forget to thank everyone who supported them during the previous year. Before signing off, he offered a few tokens of appreciation to a few key individuals and the outgoing board of directors offered a token of appreciation to Rtr. IPP Mano Mudunkotuwa as well.
Next on the agenda was the most awaited segment of the event as it was time to introduce the new leader of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central. This individual was introduced to the gathering by Rtr. Nishadi Jayasinghe followed by the collaring, handing over the gavel, and charter certificate by the outgoing President, Rtr. IPP Mano Mudunkotuwa.
The newly inducted President Rtr. Dananjaya Siriwardana took the stage for his first address as the President. During his speech, he thanked front line workers who are working hard for the betterment of others and appreciated every Rotaractor who is being in the moment even during this pandemic time and highlighted that these are the future leaders of the country. He concluded his speech by introducing his Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the year 2020-21:
Up next, the gathering was addressed by the dignitaries namely: District Rotaract Representative PP Kasun Sigera, Chief Guest of the ceremony, President of Rotary Club of Colombo Central Rtn. Thushi Ganeshan followed by the distribution of tokens of appreciation by President Rtr. Dananjaya Siriwardana.
A message was delivered by the host on behalf of the Charter President of Rotaract Club of Colombo Central Rtr. PP Eranga Premathilaka. The event was concluded following the vote of thanks delivered by the newly appointed Secretary Rtr. Sandamali Fernando after which President Rtr. Dananjaya Siriwardana adjourned the 3rd Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Colombo Central for felicitations and refreshments.
