The installation ceremony of the 5th President Rtr. Shelisha Mendis and the Board of Directors of the Rotaract Club of Ja Ela Kandana was held on the 29th of August 2020 at the Wasana Nature Resort.

The dignitaries of the evening were invited for the lighting of the oil lamp and were then invited to take their seats at the head table. The Sergeant at Arms called the house to order followed by the national anthem, flag salutation, Rotaract invocation and the four-way test by Rtr. Kavishka Perera and the Rotaract song of RID 3220.

Starting off the proceedings, the chairperson of the installation ceremony took the stage to welcome the gathering. Afterwards, the outgoing Secretary, Rtr. Lahiru Perera presented the Secretary’s report for the year 2019-2020. Rtr. Lahiru started his speech by saying, “More hands mean we can do more to improve the lives of those who need support”. The club has completed 9 projects during the year. Eventually, a mini video presentation of the 4th year of the Rotaract Club of Ja Ela Kandana was presented.

Next on the agenda was the most awaited segment of the event as it was time to introduce the new leader of the Rotaract Club of Ja Ela Kandana. This individual was introduced to the gathering by Rtr. Sahan Perera followed by the collaring, handing over the gavel and charter certificate by the President of the Rotary Club of Ja Ela Kandana, Rtn. Dilshan Perera.

The newly inducted President Rtr. Shelisha Mendis took the stage for her first address as the President. During her speech, she highlighted how she had to take on an early duty as the acting President of the Rotaract Club of Ja Ela Kandana during the year with the prevailing situations. Later, she elaborated her plans for the year and concluded her speech by introducing her Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the year 2020-2021:

Up next was a spectacular dancing act was performed by the club members. Afterwards, the gathering was addressed by the dignitaries namely: District Rotaract Representative Rtn. Kasun Sigera, Chief Guest President of the Rotary Club of Ja Ela Kandana Rtn. Dilshan Perera, District Youth Services Chairperson Rtn. Rohantha Athukorala and Guest of honour District Admin Chair PHP Rtn. PP Placidus Fernando Ganeshan followed by a distribution of tokens of appreciation by President Rtr. Shelisha Mendis.

Rtr. Kavishka Perera and Rtr. Rohani Fernando delivered the vote of thanks for the evening and the stage was open for felicitations. President Rtr. Shelisha Mendis adjourned the 5th installation ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Ja Ela Kandana for felicitations and refreshments.
