The installation ceremony of the 34th President Rtr. Evelyn John of the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte

The 34th installation ceremony of President Rtr. Evelyn John and the Board of Directors of the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte was held on 25th of July at Royal College Union Skills Center and was broadcasted live through google meet.

Dignitaries of the event were invited to light the traditional oil lamp and then took their respective seats at the head table. The Sergeant at Arms Rtr. Manoraj Rajarathnam called the house to order and the outgoing President Rtr. Kumararuban Nanthagopal called the installation ceremony to order which was followed by the National Anthem and Rotaract Formalities; The Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, The Four-Way Test and Rotaract song.

To commence the proceedings, project chairperson of the Installation Rtr. Manoraj delivered the welcome speech. Afterwards outgoing Secretary and Incoming President Rtr. Evelyn John presented the secretary’s report for the year 2019-2020. She stated that the year had seen the successful completion of 30 projects out of which 8-Club Service, 10-Community service, 5-Professional Development, 3-International Service, 2-Finance, 1-Cluster project and finally the project in celebration of 50 years of Rotaract in Sri Lanka and she also emphasized on the signature projects: Wella Pongal which is a club service project completed with the aim of promoting peace & harmony,  First Step a community service-based project which had 2 phases, Break Away under the professional development, Flag Exchange with RAC Jumeirah under international understanding and Poori’s by Wellawatte under finance. She thanked everyone who supported them during the year followed by a video presentation of the 33rd year of the Rotaract Club of Wellawatte.

Next, the Outgoing President Rtr. Kumararuban Nanthagopal addressed the gathering for one last time as the 33rd President of Rotaract Club of Wellawatte and shared his experience and memories from the past years. Before concluding, he presented the token of appreciation to all the individuals who have supported him throughout the year.

Next on the agenda was the most anticipated moment of the event as it was the introduction of the incoming president followed by the collaring of the incoming President Rtr. Evelyn John and handing over the gavel and charter certificate by the outgoing President Rtr. Kumararuban

The newly inducted president addressed the gathering for the 1st time as the President and a snippet from her speech are as follows “This year we will adhere to the theme “Elevate, Encourage and Expand” with the expectation of elevating our society high by lending a helping hand for those in need, encouraging our members to develop themselves as an individual, as a leader and expanding as a team as well as our service towards the community. I hope, together with my vibrant set of Board of Directors and members we can make it happen.

Next, she introduced the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the year 2020-21.

Next on the agenda, the District Rotaract Representative Rtn. Kasun Sigera, District Youth Service Chair Rtn. Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, and Chief Guest President of the Rotary Club of Mount Lavinia Rtn. Dalitha Wijayawardena addressed the gathering followed by the distribution of tokens of appreciation to the dignitaries by the Outgoing President Rtr. Kumararuban Nanthagopal.

The event was concluded with the vote of thanks by the secretary for the year 2020-2021 Rtr. Frank Joseph after which President Rtr. Evelyn John officially adjourned the ceremony.
