A School Free of Covid-19 by the Rotaract Club of Kadawatha.
Dear Diary, This is the 5th entry for the ‘Pandemic Diaries’ blog series. Let me take you through the exemplary ambitions of Rotaract Club of Kadawatha with regards to the Stop the Spread initiative.
The COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020 and a pandemic in March 2020. Even though it was new to us in recent times, as the largest youth of Sri Lanka, We the Rotaractors are taking great efforts in controlling the spread of this vicious virus.
Notably, the Rotaract Club of Kadawatha determined to work towards this course, through their projects like A school free of covid-19 and Pivithuru Ratak Suwabara Hetak. Let’s look at each of them.
A School Free of Covid-19
They decided to reach a few schools and share a leaflet about Covid-19 and how to stop the spread. So leaflets were printed and shared among 3 schools. It was also pasted on all the classrooms and school notice boards too.
WP/Minu/ Wagowwa Junior School, Minuwangoda, WP/Minu/ Nilpanagoda Maha Vidyalaya, Minuwangoda, WP/Minu/ Maarapola Primary School, Minuwangoda were the schools that they have reached. In these schools, they have pasted the leaflet in every classroom and there were around 80 classrooms and pasted the leaflet on every Notice Board as well. Since there was the risk of spreading virus from our hands, they decided not to share the leaflet among students but gave them a chance to take them by themselves. In that leaflet, there were many instructions such as, how to behave before and after going to school. And, how to behave when entering the home after a school day and so on.
Pivithuru Ratak Suwabara Hetak
Videos with bits of advice were shared through social media platforms such as Facebook. So they decided to share these videos under 3 categories. Those are called “A vote free of Covid-19”, “School free of Covid-19”, “Sri Lanka Free of Covid-19“. Under those categories, they had a plan to share videos. They were able to share 17 videos and 17 flyers through the project. Many people have had watched the video since they uploaded and shared it on Facebook. From the project, they approached more than 1000 people and they were able to achieve their main target.
