We are living in a world which includes flora, fauna, human beings and their activities. As everyone knows, human beings are the most specialized and superior animal among other species of life. By the process of evolution, here we are as human beings doing things which are unique for ourselves. Starting from dropping atomic bombs and killing people, plotting bio-wars which are unseen by our naked eyes like Covid-19, against our own human being. No other species have ever wielded such power, and no species could. The same unique intelligence and teamwork also paved the way for more positive aspects like modern medicine.
The modern world we live has become increasingly inter-connected and inter-dependent, however, the magnitude of the challenges that we try to overcome and in process of adapting for this changes that are disrupting the world, threaten the peace we are working towards- climate change, human mobility, increasing cost of living, modern technology, difference in human societies, nations and cultures, as well as greediness for power.
As rightly said by someone, “When the power of love overcomes the love of the power the world will know the peace”. Since 16th of May 2018 we have been celebrating International Day of Living Together in Peace declared by UN General-Assembly, in its resolution 72/130, in order to appreciate the efforts made by the international community to build up peace, prosperity, tolerance, and understanding. Even though, Difference is at the basis of our identity, as it defines who we are and not, this day aims to support the desire to act together and developing the ability to listen to, recognize, respect, appreciate and accepting others in spite of differences, and living in a peaceful and united way.
In the long run, this can be achieved by understanding and bridging the cultures together and working with communities, trustworthy leaders and other relevant personalities. By mobilizing civil society, we need to encourage and develop their capacities to provide necessary physical and emotional safety for vulnerable populations under threat of violence. Social media now days plays one of the key role in promoting peace and showcase the world if any violation acts happen against humanity. Children and youth remain the main part in achieving these goals therefore they need to understand the value of the peace building agenda and to get acquainted with its underlying benefit.
We, the Rotractors have pledged ourselves to work towards peace and prosperity in spite of differences of our culture and creed and we have been playing an active role in bridge making and creating cohesive societies that at the same time preserve cultural legacy as well. We are doing our best to facilitate inter-religious and inter-cultural dialogues in order to make to an improved awareness of the common values shared by all humankind.
Lets continue this till the end of our never ending Rotaract movement.
Viva La Rotaract.
