Setting trends in the Rotaract movement once again, Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town had their first ever online meeting on the 21st of March 2020. The club took the initiative of conducting its 9th General Meeting via Zoom considering the curfew implemented around the country by the Government as a measure to control the outbreak of the deadly COVID 19 the new Corona virus. All members were excited for the meeting as it was a first time experience for all members and hence everyone was eagerly waiting for the meeting to happen.  We had 40 members and 2 prospective members participating for the meeting as everyone of bored to death by being locked up in their homes for few weeks. Making the meeting more interesting we had the big boss of Rotaract DRR Rtr. PP Krishan Balaji and the boss lady ADRR Rtr. PP Afraa Mohamed joining us on line.

The meeting started sharp at 3.00 PM as scheduled making it a rare occasion of starting an event on time in Sri Lanka. So, also we became a proud group of Rotaractors who had broken Sri Lankan social norms by starting an event on time.

Our Sargent of arms for the day, Rtr. Hamza Huzair called the meeting to order and Rtr. Ashmal Muneer started with the General Meeting formalities; Flag salutation, Invocation and the Four-way test.

Our one and only madam secretary Rtr. Nadeera Udawatta proceeded with the previous meeting minutes followed by our President Rtr. Nipun Alwis, with the discussion of the main club matters. There were also three new inductees to our awesome club Shabeer, Zamry and Suresha. The Midtowner of the month was awarded to Rtr. Haneea Waajith as described best by our president as “a bit of a moody character”.

Adding more falovaour to the meeting DRR Rtr. PP Krishan Balaji also shared his thought and said that it was the first time he joined a club meeting online and he loved the experience. He congratulated the club on the great initiative taken and requested to share this online meeting technique with other clubs in the movement as well. He also thanked the club for all the great work undertaken during this hour of need and requested everyone to stay home and be safe.

As usual we also celebrated the birthdays of the March babies by singing happy birthday, though a cake was missing this time.

The meeting was concluded at 3.00 PM shortly after the vote of thanks was delivered by the Secretary, Rtr. Nadeera Udawatta.

And today we are so happy to see many clubs following our footstep and conducting their General Meetings online. We are truly happy that we were able to make a difference in the Rotaract movement during these hard times and put a smile on many Rotaractors who missed attending their club meetings.
