RAC Silvercity Midtown RID 3080 (India) launched an initiative to make an impact. 17 clubs across 5 countries joined in to raise awareness on Global Population issues, on this World Population Day on 11th July.  With the power of Social Media, our messages spread wide and far from India to Bangladesh to Sri-Lanka to Maldives to Philippines. We launched this online campaign to spread awareness among the masses and to read a wider audience.

Rtr. Saana Kataria, President of Rotaract Club of Silvercity Midtown tells us the thought process for launching this campaign. “Controlling the population, birth control are some of the topics, that people do not necessarily feel comfortable face-to-face. But in the comfort of one’s home, scrolling through social media on their own devices, the person can be made aware without being made uncomfortable. And that was the idea while initiating this campaign.”

Through this campaign, we tried to address a range of population issues. The world population day focuses on educating the masses that family planning is not a privilege but a human right. And it is the need of the hour to exercise this right. Family planning is essential to securing the well-being and autonomy of women. It helps prevent unintended pregnancies, reducing the risk of deaths of mothers and children

Contraceptives have a proven track record of enhancing the health of women and children, preventing unintended pregnancy, and reducing the need for abortion. Plan your future, plan your consequences! Unplanned pregnancies leading to overpopulation. Overpopulation results in overexploitation of already limited resources.

World population is 7.7 billion and counting, still almost half of the world is struggling to make ends meet. Educating girls is the key to eradicating poverty. Educating girls gives them the freedom to make decisions to improve their lives. But this secret weapon is deliberately neglected, in most communities around the world. It is time to educate girls and end poverty.

Gender equality is a necessity for advancing development and reducing poverty. Empowered women contribute to the health and productivity of whole families and communities, and they improve prospects for the future.

It is rightly said, “If we do not voluntarily bring population growth under control in the next one or two decades, the nature will do it for us in the most brutal way, whether we like it or not.”

Hence, it is the time to act now! Save the future!
Rotaract Club Of Silvercity Midtown extends our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the clubs across the club that joined hands with us for this campaign and did their part in making an impact. This was only the beginning!
