The installation ceremony of the 47th President Rtr. Nimesha Jayamanne and the Board of Directors of the Rotaract Club of Colombo West was held on the 18th of July 2020 at the Royal College Union Skill Centre and the ceremony was broadcasted live on Facebook.
The dignitaries of the evening were invited for the lighting of the oil lamp and were invited to take their seats at the head table. The Sergeant at Arms, Rtr. Annatta called the house to order followed by the national anthem, flag salutation, Rotaract invocation, the four-way test and the Rotaract song of RID 3220.
Starting off the proceedings, the chairperson of the installation committee, Rtr. Brenn Anandage took the stage to welcome the gathering. Afterward, the outgoing Secretary, Rtr. Danica Harding presented the Secretary’s report for the year 2019/20. The club has completed 48 projects out of which 12 – Club Service, 15 – Community Service, 10 – Professional Development, 07 – International Service, 01 – Peace and Harmony, 02 – PR based, and finally the project in celebration of 50 years of Rotaract in Sri Lanka. She highlighted different achievements that the Rotaract Club of Colombo West achieved during the 30th Rotaract District Assembly and appreciated everyone who supported them followed by a mini video presentation of the 46th year of the Rotaract Club of Colombo West. Rtr. Danica offered a token of appreciation to her mother before she signed off as the Secretary.
Rtr. IPP. Sahan Gunasekara took the stage to address the gathering for one last time as the 46th President of the Rotaract Club of Colombo West. He started his speech by emphasizing on how they thrived towards success despite how everyone started the Rotaract year with a terrorist attack and ended with a global pandemic. He did not forget to thank everyone who supported them during the previous year. Before signing off, he offered a few tokens of appreciation to his parents, Rtr. Annam & Rtr. Danica and a few others, followed by a mini video clip.
Next on the agenda was the most awaited segment of the event as it was time to introduce the new leader of the Rotaract Club of Colombo West. This individual was introduced to the gathering by Rtr. Danica Harding and Rtr. Carine Anandage followed by the collaring, handing over the gavel and charter certificate by the outgoing President, Rtr. IPP Sahan Gunasekara.
The newly inducted President Rtr. Nimesha Jayamanne took the stage for her first address as the President. During her speech, she highlighted her vision of ‘Conquering Opportunities of Service’ for the upcoming year of the Rotaract Club of Colombo West. Next, she offered a token of appreciation to Rtr. IPP Sahan Gunasekara and concluded her speech by introducing her Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the year 2020-21:
Up next, the gathering was addressed by the dignitaries namely: District Rotaract Representative Rtr. PP Kasun Sigera, Co-District Rotaract committee chairperson for the year 2020/21 Rtn. IPP Danya Udukumbure, Guest of Honor District Youth Service chairperson for the year 2020/21 Rtn. PHF. Dr. Rohantha Athukorala, Chief Guest of the ceremony President of Rotary Club of Colombo West Rtn. PHF Brian Selvanayagam followed by the distribution of tokens of appreciation by President Rtr. Nimesha Jayamanne.
The newly appointed Secretary Rtr. Chamodi Rathnasinghe delivered the vote of thanks for the evening after which President Nimesha Jayamanne adjourned the 47th Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of Colombo West for felicitations and refreshments.
