Dear Diary, This is the second entry for the ‘Pandemic Diaries’ blog series. Here’s an account of the exemplary efforts of the Rotaract Club of RIC with regards to the Stop the Spread initiative.

We have all gone through various challenging phases in our lives and most of us have come out of it either stronger or weaker than before. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic that devastated much of the year 2020, people of all ages were put to the ultimate test, both in terms of protecting their loved ones and keeping themselves safe. This was followed by the imposition of a worldwide lockdown, which confined the entirety of the human population to their homes.

Taking all this into account the Rotary District of 3220 launched an initiative termed ‘Stop the Spread’. This was an initiative aimed at organizing projects with the Rotary, Rotaract and Interact movements with the intent of reaching out to each club’s local communities with regards to the Covid – 19 pandemic. This initiative was enthusiastically adapted by the movements and they rose to the occasion to launch a myriad of projects, while adhering to WHO health guidelines.

The Rotaract Club of Royal Institute Colombo albeit a new club in the Rotaract community eagerly took up the challenge to contribute towards the “Stop the Spread” initiative by organising project PanVantage. This project was aimed at assisting the R/K Ekneligoda College in Kuruwita, which was in dire need of safety equipment for its school.

The school consisted of a student body of 162 along with 20 academic staff.

PanVantage was initiated with funds raised from a previous project along with the assistance of the Rotary Club of Colombo South and Interact Club of Royal Institute. The project was completed on the 02nd of October 2020, where representatives of the club were able to visit the school. Moreover, the club managed to donate reusable face masks, first aid kits, sanitizers and foot-operated sinks.

The Rotaract Club of Colombo Mid Town greatly appreciates this worthy effort by the Rotaract Club of Royal Institute and also wishes the club all the very best for their upcoming projects.
